Will
CCC copper products tarnish or show fingerprints?
As of July,
2002, all of CCC’s products are coated with a
clear, non-toxic, water soluble, biodegradable tarnish
inhibitor. Those who use our products with food should
rinse the item in warm soapy water prior to first use.
As long as the copper is kept from direct sunlight,
handling, and moisture, it will keep its original luster
for years.

How do I polish
CCC products?
Although plenty of commercial copper
polishes are available, here is an easy recipe most
of you have at home. Apply a thick coating of ketchup
to the entire piece. Apply the ketchup with steel wool
(000 or 0000 / fine to superfine) with swirling strokes.
Wait several minutes for the natural acids to remove
stains then wash the ketchup away. Be sure to completely
dry the piece with a soft towel. Simply repeat the process
for heavy staining. This polishing can last for years
in a clean, dry environment.

Are CCC products
just for decoration?
While our work is decorative and can
be used as such, each piece is made by hand in a museum
quality workshop. Every item is made as if it were going
to be used in a traditional manner. As long as the piece
is intended to serve food, it is safe to do so.

Are the same
products available to everyone?
We produce products for catalogs and
retail stores, exclusively designed and manufactured.
Those are the only pieces that would be limited to our
visiting public.

Are custom
pieces available to the public?
We specialize in custom work for the
individual or business. We will tailor to fit your needs,
whether it is one piece or five hundred. Our sales staff
and artisans would be happy to help determine your exact
goal.

Does copper
cookware need a lining?
Copper is a metal, and can react with
heat, food acids, high moisture, and exposure. Over
time, these can erode the surface if not protected by
a nickel or tin coating. The amount of copper it would
take to adversely affect someone’s health is much,
much more than you would ever get from drinking from
an unlined cup or whipping meringue in an unlined bowl.
A skillet, stewpot, etc used daily would need a lining.
Traditionally, copper products like cookie-cutters,
whisk bowls and most serving type vessels are not lined.
Copper needs only to be lined if used continuously under
conditions involving acidic foods, high heat, and long
time exposure. Due to the relatively high cost of hand
tinning copperware, our products are lined by special
order only. If you are planning use for everyday or
commercial application, speak to a sales representative
about traditional tin lining.

How did Michael
Bonne learn the copper trade?
Michael Bonne began sculpting and
fabricating copper items in high school art class in
the seventies. Although he is the first coppersmith
in his family’s lineage, his love of tradition
was inherited from his Midwestern farm background. Circle
City Copperworks private collection of antique metal
working machinery, hand-tools, and original patterns
is unrivaled anywhere in North America; proving that
some things are still done with time and consideration.
